Hi All

Just finished turning a winged egg cup based on the idea of Bobham winged boxes. I've currently applied the first coat of Danish Oil and waiting for it the dry before applying more. This will be my first time using oil as a finish. I'll post pics when done.

The question is - is Danish Oil OK for this?

From searching the forums the jury seems out. I think that I will be Ok as the shell will be between the eaty bits and wood.

No need to paint a pic Mark, a camera will do fine. :p

As promised here are a couple of pictures.

First one is a side view:

And from the top:

Wood is pine from the top of a door frame. And yes there is the start of a pin hole in the bottom :-$ from the live centre.

Never done that before!

I like that idea, might try it.

Looks like you achieved a great finish on Pine  Well done for that =D> =D> =D> =D> This shows good tooling and sharpening skills. Great effort all round!!

Cool idea !!

5 more and a nice platter with recess's to hold them !

To do that with pine takes skill as said. Nice work. If you turn the wings the other way, up instead of down, you'd ahve somewhere to put your soldiers

Thanks for the comments.

I think I'll have a go at doing a set in hardwood as I should be getting some off cuts of Oak soon.

A platter is the next on the list to try as my mates missuses wants a round piece of wood that she can mount a mosaic on.

Interesting idea and well executed, Mark! As others have said, it takes real skill to achieve that kind of a finish in pine. Well done!
