Hi Guys,
I made a cross for a grave from Iroko. It seems to be a naturally oily timber. Does it need a finishing coat or is it ok to leave it weather?
I saw some mention of Liberon oil.. would that be suitable?
Thanks,
F.

If left unfinished it will weather to a silvery grey colour. A garden furniture oil or teak oil will give it a nice colour but will need fairly frequent re-applications. Depends on what you want, I prefer to leave Iroko to weather naturally.

If you want the finish to last longer you can try mixing 50% spar varnish and 50% teak oil. Wipe it on then wipe of the excess after 5 mins. It will eventually need refinishing but will last longer than just straight oil.
