I'm making a dresser top from some old pine wardrobes for a friend.

There is one piece with some holes in approx 5mm across.

The finished thing is going to be painted (although I'm going to check they havent changed their minds)

So I need to fill these holes as simply (cheaply) and with the most invisible look as possible.

Dowels glued in and planed flat? Will it matter that its end grain against face grain?

Filler of some sort?

any other "bodges" for this situation?

Holes cant be incorporated into the design unfortunately.

Just use a 2 part epoxy filler, cuprinol do a good one. Ive used that before and if it is to be painted you will never be able to tell there has been holes there.

Hi,

Car body filler, its the best stuff, fill it proud and scrape it flat with a card scraper or steel rule.

Pete

cut some plugs from a scrap piece, drill holes to suit, plug, make sure you line up the grain, plane to finish, if done well virtually invisible :D

If you've got the cutters - defintely a good idea & if you haven't got them, they'll defintely come in handy in the future. Whereas body filler??
