Festool prices.

I personally think festools pricing structure is not a bad thing. It stops a price cutting war between dealers and encourages people to buy on service rather than price. I would rather deal with a local dealer that will provide good service and be able to sort out any problems rather than trawl the internet for the best price from an unknown company. A bit of discount on accesories is appreciated though.

I personnally think Festool prices are ridiculous, I speak as someone who has 2 festool routers and a domino plus plenty of dewalt and makita and other makes. Festool are good tools but they are way overpriced, the 1/2" router is lacking in certain qualities esp in sturdiness for a workshop enviroment, the quick fit attachments are also fragile and often break.
Domino corners the market so if you want it guess you have to stump up but for the rest of the festool stuff I only buy it when I get deals

The pay back, and this goes for any tool you purchase, boils down to
1 Profit because the tool reduces time, cost etc...and it's used on a production type basis.
or
2 You are a DIY guy who has lots of dosh and uses it now and then.

So, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM???

Do your calculations...make your choice, and get over it.


IMO.....
If you make enough of the same stuff, ...sub contract to China..
If you make bespoke......why consider one, at this cost?

Only YOU can work out that solution.

The price is the price...at the end of the day

I wish i'd have bought the router drilling guide rail system last year, 10% increase as of January 2009 is a fair amount more to pay, But if the need arises I ill still buy it as it will make things alot easier.
I have 2 of the 150/5 sanders now, Nothing i have used over the years making furniture compares, As far as routers go, For general use i'd rather have 4 cheaper ones than one expensive one to save set up times.

When i requested a demo of the drilling rig, 2 vans turned, The area rep and his manager, A swift but informative and professional demonstration.
I dont think its easy to become a stockist of festool products, And this is good imo, Stops Internet cutthroat cowboys and keeps the whole Festool experience and aftersales as professional as Festool want to keep it.

Being new to 'proper' woodworking tools and a frustrated joiner I became convinced (based on some pretty sound advice from this forum last week) that I desperately needed a router for many jobs; and I'd psyched myself up to buying a Festool on Saturday. I set out for Axminster in Wycombe but stopped off at Isaac Lord in because it's a very informative and friendly place to shop.

You are absolutely right, the Festool gear is exactly the same price and so I was just left with working out whether to spend the thick end of £400 or £600 on a top of the range router.

But, I compared both to the DeWalt 625E and, whilst there can be no question that the refinement of the Festool is in a different league, the 625 does just about everything and was on offer at £230, so I bought one. What a fabulous bit of kit! I have used it for two long outstanding jobs and experimented with it for almost two days solid and I think it is just brilliant. And that was before I worked out that it's even better with electricity.

No seriously, I loathe price fixing however subtley it's done and I just couldn't bring myself to buy something that isolates itself from market forces.

hi can i add my two pence worth? i agree that festool is expensive. and yes i have a ts55+domino+kapex mitre saw. thing is it has endured a couple of years of bar re-fits and never missed a beat. machines still look new whereas my other equipment looks tatty.
