I've just got hold of a well used festool psb300 jigsaw. There seems to be a lot of play in the blade, by which I mean you can push/ pull the blade in and out of the holder (ie up and down if looking from the side of the jigsaw), there's a good 5mm of movement. Is this normal or is it a dud? Have tried a few practice cuts and the cut seems to want to veer off to the side.

I've got a Festool jigsaw, can't remember the model number, there's a variable control over the amount of "forward sweep" that the blade has, this can introduce a lot of what appears to be play at some settings but is actually there by design. Also, are you sure the blade is sharp and that it's properly seated in the guide roller?

Yeah it's a new blade (Bosch). looking at the guide roller it looks like there's a groove worn in it, slightly to one side, maybe this needs replacing?

Ive had a lot of both with Festool jigsaws - very very loose blades (yes it was seated properly) so it jumped forward into the cut making a mess. Similar problems on two different models at different workshops. I bought a Makita with the same battery as my drill in the end.

And don't get me started on the strobe light!!

No help. But it's not just you.

Tbh I've never really got on with jigsaws, I don't think I've ever used one that didn't feel like it was ripping the wood apart, although I was hoping for better from a (albeit used) festool
