Thought I might join in the interests of research:

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/f ... odworking/

However the procedure for joining seems rather well hidden! I have obtained a Yahoo email address and can thus log on to Yahoo itself. When I click on "join the group" I'm asked to create a group profile (which appears to be a username for the group). My chosen name is already taken so I accept the suggestion - something like "ivan2945" which takes me to my Yahoo profile page, which shows my real name and county where I live, required for the ymail email address. But nothing more about joining the blxxxdy Felder group!

Anyone know what to do here?

PS I don't want to upload a load of personal details or names of 'friends' or post babypix - just to join the Felder users group. Grrrr! Help!

Worked OK for me though I already have a yahoo profile, once you have this you click "join group" and will have to enter your name & password then, transfer your details or not as you wish, say why you want to join, type out the funny writing and then wait for confirmation e-mail.

I would also suggest that you opt for only looking at the messages via the web as you could end up with a lot of e-mails if you ask for each post to come through by e-mail

Ivan,

I get the same response as jason as I also have a Yahoo ID.

The only thing I can think of is to join another group (anything!) and establish that your yahoo ID is working OK and then try joining the felder group again.
then if successful, leave the other group.

On Jason's second point about emails, I quite like the daily digest when joining a new group at it gives you an idea of the volume of traffic and how relevant it is to your needs/interests. You can easily change preferences later on.

Thanks guys, but I must be mising something somewhere, as I can log on, examine/edit my Yahoo ID and Profile, but still getting sent from "join group" to my already existing profile with no joining options anywhere in sight! To stop this getting too dull for others PM sent

Ivan, I joined about two years ago and I recall it was extremely difficult to work out how to do it. Luckily someone gave me the admins e-mail and he somehow 'enabled' me, can't remember what he did 'tho sorry.

Anyway, as mentioned above you then start getting a lot of e-mail notifications, this can be changed to just one a day with a summary of each post.

But TBH I 'unsubscribed' after about six months, although all the members were polite not many topics were of interest to me. It is of course predominately American, and overwhelmingly proffessional woodies, so topics like how to adjust your auto feed rollers etc. were way above my level

Also, I really didn't like the format, it was hard to read and the threads seemed to have a lot of repeated posts, I never quite worked out why that was.

If you are a pro. woodworker, have the 'top end' Felder kit (Not Hammer etc) can live with user unfriendly format and the American jargon, then it maybe worth pursuing it but it didn't suit me I'm sorry to say.

It sems the Yahoo software is not too clever (seems it's in beta). Bob had the same trouble when he tried to create a new test ID. Unlike me he got a respose from the helpline, which he PMed me. It works! You have to create your username (or alias) in the "manage your identity" section of your account. Then clicking on "join group" does the stuff.

Looking to find out a bit more about panel saws, thought this group might have some interesting reads.

As usual, thanks to all for helping sort problem (and a merry crimble to all our readers)
