Felder DVD in F&C

Hi,

Any one watched it yet? I had a quick scan the Felder clamps don't look very good, they where bent like a ski slope!! but they had some nice little clamps that fit into holes drilled each side of a joint that looked very good.

I doubt he'd have used that type of clamp in his own work, away from the camera. I couldn't believe it either! Bessey's are made in Germany and would certainly be a better choice.

I was, of course, impressed with the universal/combi overall. But, in particular, there were two things that stood out.

1. The guarding on the spindle moulder. Most ring fences I've seen don't offer dust extraction, let alone a decent guard (in my opinion).

2. Ripping waney-edge boards on the sliding carriage. This is probably something everyone else already knows about, but it's new to me. I guess you can even adapt the idea to smaller table saws with a sliding table, such as the new £600 Record machine. It's quicker and more accurate than doing it with a bandsaw, that's for sure.

It's nice to dream though, isn't it.

OPJ, I haven't seen the video yet, it's still sitting on the desk. I don't know if it showed the underneath dust extraction device as well, you get top & bottom extraction.

Another good way to use the sliding table & outrigger setup is that you can load 8 X 4 sheets on and just walk the slider, it does all the work, and the accuracy is excellent.

You're right ProShop; the narrator (who was probably the only bad point worth mentioning) did point out the efficiency of the below-table extraction when the German guy (can't remember his name) was routing some circles against a router cutter (perilously, without a guard...).

Yeah, I found the voice-over to be quite annoying. Especially his pronounciation of "mor-tizer"! :twisted:

You could ask you wife to pronounce it and she'd get it right. :wink:

It did look a cracking machine to big for my garage
It did look like the desk was designed around the machine I don't think he would have used dowels on the top and finger joints on the draws normally.

Mor-tizer, I thought he was thirsty :wink:

I watched it in german, and thought it was impressive.

When i got the machine to speak english it was even more impressive.

The absence of a hand tool to speak of was disturbing.
