My entry for this month challenge. Inspiration came from the planet saturn.
The base is a random off cut I had under the bench, it might be white oak but I'm not 100%. I turned it between centres with a spindle gouge and parting tool and sanded to 400 grit, then finished with bees wax.
The larger ball is 4 inches in diameter and is made out of cherry, again turned between centres by hand with a spindle gouge, then mounted in cup chucks, sanded to 600 grit and finished with bison wax.
The ring was turned from a cherry log I had in the garden, it was turned between centres and cut with a parting tool, the only problem I had was the wood was still quite green :roll: I then sanded it to 400 grit and bees wax applied.
The small ball is 2.5 inches in diameter its turned out of pedunculate oak, same process as the large ball, sanded to 600 grit and finished with bison wax.
The dowel is made from beech and was turned between centres with a spindle gouge, sanded to 400 grit and bees wax applied.
No glue was used in the construction all parts push fit.
