a bit random but from a conversation with swimbo she asked what my favorite cake is

apparently neither "all of them" or "the ones you make darling" is an acceptible cop out so if i had to choose it would be victoria sponge.

which set me thinking what do you guys favour ... and remember no cops outs , the mighty swimbo knows all and sees all :D

My Mum's homebaked rock cakes. (Not had any now for many years as at 93 she hasn't done any baking for quite a while). I have the recipe, but somehow they are not the same when I make them.

Lemon drizzle cake - the one my colleague Trevor's wife makes is fantastic...

SWMBO just made a really great Simnal cake, and her Christmas cake is the best I've tasted (and no, she's not here prompting me...)

yeh I'm partial to fruit cake. I do like the occasional bit of malt loaf (Doreen's Soreen?)

Lemon Sponge is also a fave.

its got to be ginger cake for me, with the lemon sauce they used to serve at the school canteen...... yum

or of course kentish gypsy tart.

   What!!! She didn't know????!!!

Surely that is just about the first thing she should have found out about you!!!! :D

Of course, you answered .......a rich, heavy, dark, moist, fruit cake with an inch thick slab of homemade marzipan on top....?

Well.....that's what I would have said..........but then........my wife would never ask!

My current favourite (without currents) is Triple Ginger cake. I's a ginger sponge with stem ginger, iced with slices of ginger on the top. Yummy, especially after I've preserved my own ginger.

Cheers

Hi all

now come on this ain't fair what about all the diabetic here all that lovely sweet sugar, ugh horrible .

well i like all cakes really , but being a diabetic knocks that on the head for me , well not really i do cheat now and again but when i do I'll go along with wizer here .hc

Hi,

I have to agree with you HC, it's fairly making my mouth water reading
all these posts, for I too am Diabetic and have to inject everytime I eat.
And I love sweet stuff. But am now greatly restricted in what I can have.

I remember when I was a lad, born and raised in good old Norfolk, I used to go along the hedgerows picking Blackberrys so my Mum could make Apple & Blackberry tarts
and pies and lashings of lovely custard.
We were not rich as far as money goes, but boy did we eat well.
With my Mum being a country girl she used to make the most fabulous food, and
bake all her cakes and bread herself. It always amazed me how she could make
such wonderful tasty and filling stuff from next to nothing.
regards.
Trev

My favourite cake is of course chocolate cake, but it has to be my mum's recipe. It is a really moist soft cake as it is made with tinned milk and it is dead easy to make.

when I went off to Uni I took a notebook filled with my mums recipies and the chocolate cake was the firsat page ;)
