yeah I had full coverage of glue on the joints, I spread it with my finger and achieved 100% coverageMaybe it's just the picture, but looking at the pic of the failed joint in the first post, to my eyes the glue didn't look evenly distributed along the length and there appeared to be spaces on each mating surfaced where there was no glue.
I don't want to sound patronising, but I wonder if - when the glue was applied - the pieces of wood were rubbed back and forth to make sure that each of the mating surfaces are fully coated. The glue also seems to have stayed on the surfaces of the wood, rather than to have penetrated. Obviously the denser the wood, the more likely that is to happen.
