I need a forge, I wonder what the fuel costs are to keep that hotspot going for 15 mins.

That's really nice. I have stood by a few F1 engines over the years and the last few 3.0 litre V10 engines were the most violent sounding IMO. I was next to the 2001 McLaren at Goodwood festival of speed a year or two back and was shocked by the savage noise of these engines. Top Fuel Drag cars are also impressive but an F1 motor on song still makes the hairs on my neck stand on end.

One of the best things to watch is one doing a standing start with an enthusiastic driver at the helm. Again at Goodwood Johnny Herbert in the Jaguar created about a 200 yard set of tyre tracks all on the rev limiter.... heaven.

Ive worked in the garage at F1 races for a couple of teams over the past 4 - 5 years. When they fire the engine up, or run it hard prior to shut down after a session if you havent got your brain defenders on it certainly hurts the ears.

o yes them engines do sing .
i have crewed in drag racing for the past ten years and seen f1 car put against some different classes it some of the street cars even put them to shame.
top fuel make the floor shake you have to be there to believe it i have been on the start line with these monsters 6000bhp of as------ing kicking nitro.
i now crew chief of just mental corvette and also crew the amsoil corvette in street eliminator.
both these cars will beat the f1 over the 1/4 mile.
and only cost a fraction of the money

When I went to the Le Mans 24 hour race, there was a bloke with a stall selling CDs of engine noises  When it gets to that, it's probably time to take up something really exciting, like train spotting

Cheers

Ah, but can they finish a 150 mile race?

I think F1 cars really show just how creative the human brain is. Every year the FIA introduce new regulations to try and slow down the cars, and every year the engineers make the cars go faster. Apart from last year when they introduced V8s instead of V10s. I love Martin Brundels little technical sgements they show before the race. I remember one when he said during a race the exhausts can get so hot they go transparent. (You could just see it starting to go translucent in the video).

F1, can't stand it. Give me Bikes any day. Watched the first 2 rounds of Superbikes yesterday, more overtaking in the first 2 corners than you will see in F1 all season.

Boo hiss at Johnboy

Just a month or so to go eh ?

Spose the first one's are at a ridiculous hour in the am.......oh well, gotta be done.....though even I have to admit that towards the end of the season I'm left thinking - why do I bother?

Maybe without Schumi it will be a bit more open.....

What? It's an engine going broom broom for a long long long long time. Interesting as in pieces of furniture I presume. Maybe without Schumi it will be even more boring to watch cars going round and round for a long long long long time.

What would be good would be scrapping pit stops (not as in fisticuffs, though that could be good too). You see, with pit stops the object of the exercise isn't to achieve position but to maintain the quickest pace - something you achieve by timing your stop to minimise contact on the track with the other cars, or time spent 'racing' as we used to call it.

Trouble is f1 is a business money ,money and more money. The show/spectacle draws interest not the racing, but if you like engines as engineering master pieces that video clip is a spine tingler. When was the last time you saw 20,000rpm and three foot flames from the exhaust 8) .

I prefer bikes too(mx)mainly. :)

6 foot header flames from a nitro burning dragster and a big ball of flames when it all goes wrong.
yes the bike racing is good more overtaking than f1.

I'm with Johnboy. Superbikes is actually about racing. F1 lost its way years ago. It is a spectacle for sure but the so-called racing can be so boring.
I'll just stay low for a while, shall I?

On my little speakers that motor sounds a bit like a demented sowing machine, sure its not tho' . Agree about F1, it's about as interesting as watching paint dry, very ZZZZZworthy...the attractions on the starting grid holding the umbis are usually much more interesting  - Rob

I reckon you need to watch endurance racing, like the Le Mans 24 Hour, if you want to see exciting motor racing. Lots of races within the race and lots of opportunity to see the driving skills making a real difference. One year when I went, it was torrential rain for most of the race. It was magical to see the French driver Eric Helary take over the car in the early hours of the morning and lap at several seconds a lap faster than anyone else solely through his skill at driving in the wet.

The cost is significantly different as well. You can usually travel there, get two nights in a hotel, entrance to the track and grandstand seats for less than it costs to get into a Formula One race and see nothing except the backs of people's heads.

And at Le Mans you get the Hawaiian Tropic Girls :D

Cheers

Whilst I do watch F1 - usually later on the Sunday evening these days - there are two races I look forward to watching (OK, on the TV) - Le Mans & the Bathurst 1000 - now both shown in their entirity on Motors TV :)
