Hi

I've mentioned in other threads that I'd like a radial arm saw... but now I think the EZ Smart system may be perfect for me. It'd be for crosscuts only.

There are some good attachments to square up panels so it would seem to be more versatile and cheaper than a radial arm. A minimum of marking is what I require but simply making one tick for length would be ok... I could also make repeatable cuts for multiple pieces by using a length guide. (scrap cut to length). Or just mark carefully using a tape.

I'd also like to be able to run vertical beading on MDF for cabinet backs, this system would seem to work very well for that as well.

The problem I'm having is that I'm a bit confused by the website, I'm not sure what pieces to buy. And there's a 10% off sale on that ends today!

I'm thinking of getting the
EZ Smart GuideTM 100" Package
Item#: SGS-1
Price: $208.95

for the crosscuts...

What would I need for the routering?? just a router base attachment?
This?
Smart Router KitTM
Item#: SRK
Price: $137.45

plus

Limit Stops
Item#: LS-5
Price: $54.95

plus the EZ Glide Sub Base and the circle maker?

It's all adding to quite a bit of money!

Cheers
Joe

Hi Joe,

Can't comment on the routing systems but the SGS-1 with the addition of the Cabinetmaker will give you what you need for cutting cabinet parts. It is worth making sure that cabinetmaker package includes the handle as it really does make it easier - I knocked up my own because I forgot to order one.

I've just cut up a load of Melamine faced MDF - excellent quality of cut and really easy to use.

Hi ColG

I have posted this same thread into the forums at Sawmill Creek... and Dino has responded saying he is introducing a 20% discount for EU customers!!!

URL. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=59979

What a generous offer! Now I have more time to consider the system I need because his Fathers Day sale ends today.

I reckon I can bin my homemade radial arm saw, reclaim the space and just use this system for crosscuts. All its extra capabilities are a bonus!

Dino has just developed a new attachment for line boring, available in two weeks apparently, I'm very interested in that as well.

Great!

Cheers
Joe

I've got the system you're looking at.....and the cabinet maker...and the skr!

The 100 kit has good flexibility for doing full sheets. Cabinet and square are good, for smaller crosscuts. I don't trust it for longer cuts as it seems to begin to run of true, not sure if this is me, and I'm still glad I got it.

For routing you need the smart router kit and can get away with just that. EZ glide base isnt neccessary, it slides fine. Circle maker obviously only if you think you'll need to make circles. Limit stops would be good but I decided it was cost too far and just make do with small quick clamps. Not ideal but I plan to make my own limit stops when I have chance so up to you whether you think they're neccessary.

Hope it helps

Hi Joe

I also have the EZ SGS-1 but I would say to go for the 114" one instead as if you need to cut a full sheet, it does make it a lot easier plus the 64" rail is mush better for cross cutting.

I have the Cabinetmaker ( well I have to Repeaters with makes up the Cabinetmaker) and the Square, for short cross cuts the Square is great and so is the SRK too.

The Stops you can make if you feel the need as Dino is happy to sell you what you need.

There is a cheaper SRK in the making but you would have to ask Dino when we might see it.

I must get my bits sent back for my free exchange ( upgrades):D

Bear in mind that if you do go for the 114", that the 64" rail is to long for usps so they have to cut it and you have to get an extra set of connectors. Bear in mind also that the shipping is $170 and duty and VAT came to about £50 on mine.

USPS cut the rails themselves! That's madness... I will have to check if this is still the case with Dino 'coz if it is I will just buy shorter rails!

I would much rather if Dino had a UK re seller... I know he had problems with one UK agent, I have recommended Axminster to him.. it'd be great if they sold the full system as Axminster are very good to deal with.

To solve my crosscut problems I only really need a shorter track around 34" but because the system is so versatile that's why I was going for the 100" rails... there is a chance I may use his system for rips, crosscuts and routering once I fall in love with it!

One of the EZ's most impressive features is Dino's willingness to provide help and advice... and it seems he will make sure each customer is happy as regards replacing damaged pieces etc etc. The idea of him replacing FOR FREE the older systems with the newer models is amazing, most companies would introduce a new model so that they can resell to their original customers!

Cheers, Joe

Hi ColinC,

Do you know what the upgrade for the SRK actually is? Those photos all seem to be new bits for the cabinet maker (which I don't have).

Cheers,

V.

 Sorry - I didn't word it very well! No - Eurekazone do the cutting!!

I agree it would be good if there was a UK agent. I can't see Axminster being interested at the moment - I think they would want to see it become more established in the US first, and also for the product line to be more stable. It's too dynamic as there is so much development and tweaking going on.

Hi Vormulac

If you look at the first picture it tells you which bits need to go back :)

I was doing a quick read on the sawmill creek site at the eurekazone bit and I think that Dino may have said that returning the parts was not needed for us lot in the EU

and in addition to this as there is no agent for Dino's wonderful kit he's willing to give a 20% discount to take into account the shipping and duty

it's all here
