I've had a couple of traditional dimpled point mugs for years, inherited from family who ran a brewery. A little while back I had just finished cooking supper, put it on a plate, on a tray, and poured myself a beer. I sipped a bit, judged it satisfactory, carried it over to the tray, and suddenly my food, my plate and my tray were all awash with beer. The bottom of the glass had dropped off in a neat disc, right in the middle of my food.

I checked the other glass, and sure enough it had a tiny crack running the same pattern, presumably caused by the dishwasher heating the glass, and the thick base either cooling or heating faster than the sides.

Sounds like a lucky escape to me, I can't stand onions!

Sounds like you were quite lucky Steve. A fright like that could have given you the Galloping Gourmets!
