Hi all,

This is my first post, I'm Wiley25, did a carpentry apprenticeship when I left school 10 years ago but since joined the military. Still like to do a bit of woodwork and am currently renovating my first home!

Onto the subject at hand! I'm currently designer a 'treasure chest' art supplies case for a christmas present, basing the idea on a vanity box of sorts. I have a question, is there a name for the type of drawer seen below? I imagine it's a fairly complex process to get all the hinges lining up so I've been digging around the internet looking for some solutions... the proper name of the type of drawer would certainly be a good place to start!

The basis of a design will be a solid wooden chest with a hinged lid. The lid will contain foam holding paintbrushes and I'll have two sets of the "expanding" drawers lifting out to the left and right respectively, into these draws I'll drill slots for paints pots, build trays for pencils, crayons etc. The bottom of the chest will have a large lift out tray filled with assorted items!

Thanks in advance!

Mark

I believe it is called parallelogram linkage. Often found in sewing boxes and such.

Hi Mark,

They are trays not drawers and I also believe the hinges are cantilever, It was commonly used in toolboxes when metal ones were fashionable. Isaac Lord in High Wycombe may be able to help
