Last week I had to re-install Windows XP on my desktop, a 3.2gig P4 with 1 gig RAM. Long story and I won't bore you with it.

Anyway, everything went well until I tried to re-install AutoCAD LT97, which simply refused to work!!

Now this software was running fine on this PC before I re-did XP, and all the other apps have re-loaded fine, but this time, for some reason, AutoCAD will not install.

When the disk goes in the drive, the same one that installed the other apps, it runs up and the contents appear in explorer, but it will not auto-run. When I double click on the install file nothing happens. I ran the disc on my laptop and it started to install fine.

So, I have the same O/S as before, the disc drive is good, the disc is good, but it won't install........................any suggestions??

Thanks,

Could it be anything as simple as missing an XP service pack, that you won't have from a clean install ?

Andrew

As Andrew said, go through the windows update process until all updates are done, you are more than likely just missing on or two components to allow autocad to work.

see if you can copy the entire CD contents to a folder on the hard drive. If you can't copy it then I'd suspect a problem with the drive. If you can then you could install from the copy on the hard drive?

One other thought. If your laptop and PC are networked you could share the laptop CD drive then browse to it from the PC and run the install over the network.

Check the disk for fingerprints or scratches. Some readers are more sensitive to mucky finger prints than others, and this can change over time as well.

Is the disk a backup of the original? I've had problems with CD-R's aging and unlike wines they don't get any better.

As one of the other posters has suggested if you're networked install or copy it across. If not get a 1gig memory stick and copy it on to this to install.

regards

Graham

OK, thanks for the replies.

The disc is the original and looks to be in good condition. I've tried it on both disc drives on the desktop with no success. I've tried it on 2 laptops and it works fine on both.

I've copied the files to a directory on my desktop but the applications won't run from there either??

I'm now going to try to run it over my network.

Thanks,
