We had James from Clevely do our EVs service. Really nice not having to do a 60mile round trip twice to get it serviced instead getting a thorough service at our home. They sure like their MG5s as does a neighbour of ours who does a 100 mile in one every day.

"Which" magazine have very recently published their survey of 3500 EVs which shows that averagely 6 year old cars had lost 7% of their range when new.

It almost certainly a more reliable information source than the anecdotal based often on a sample of one, or preconceived unevidenced opinion.

Batteries deteriorate at their highest rate very early on after which the rate of deterioration reduces dramatically. My DIY home battery using EVE cells recorded 1.1% deterioration in the first month, the last 34 months has shown less than 0.2%.

Agreed, so many people make the point that batteries need replacing after 8 years at a huge cost which simply is not the case. BMW i3 has built in buffer at the top and bottom of the battery capacity, the true capacity in my model is 33kWh but it only uses 30 kWh leaving buffers at either end. This allows charging to an indicated 100% but if fact the cells are only around 90% which helps battery life. It also allows the BMS to charge to a slightly higher level as the battery degrades the net result the driver sees very little by way of battery degradation and that is common amongst i3 owners, early cars (2014) are showing little signs of battery deterioration. The i3 battery is made up of Sanyo cells, they have a life of 6000 charge cycles (life is determined when the cell capacity deteriorates to 80%). A charge cycle is from 0 to full, a charge from 25% to 100% would be classed as 0.75 cycles. My i3 averages 130 miles on a full charge. 6000 x 130miles = 780,000 miles in theory at which point the range would have reduced from 130 miles down to 104 miles, still perfectly useable.

Very true, thats local conditions in some countries that use children.

I've posted this previously, and it is regarding cobalt rather than lithium.

I would encourage everyone with an opinion either way on the mining of the minerals providing our 'clean' modern world to read Saddharth Kara's Cobalt Red.

Anyway back to the issue of EV road tax, I've just renewed mine without a reminder by selecting the V5 option on the government website. So that's the middle finger up to Starmer until March '26.
