Hi guys

Sorry fot this as I know you must get quite a few of these posts. My only local course is 1hour and 15 minutes away and starts im late feb. Its only a 2 hour evening course once a week, but will be good to get some decent advice ect.

I would like to get started a little earlier if I could and was wondering if there is anyone local to me who has a bit of spare time now and then to show me the basics. ( I'm in Benfleet Essex)

I got a few tools at my local bootsale last week and have been messing around with them, but im having a bit of trouble sharpening them, also im not to sure if I have my planes set up and tuned right too.

I have read loads of topics on here and have been watching a lot on YouTube but I keep reading contradicting techniques and keep questioning if I am doing it right.

I learn easier if there is someone teaching me 1to1

If there is any one local I would obviously pay for their time.

If not I'll keep cracking on and hopefully it will come together sooner or later lol

Thanks all
Dan

YouTube is your friend. There are 100s of tutorials on there.

I know it's not the same as face to face but I've learnt a lot from YouTube.

Have a look at the Paul Sellers videos.

There are many more but can't think of their names.

I'm sure someone will pipe up with some more.

Cheers guys,

I think YouTube is the way to go, until the course starts at least.

Steve,
There is a evening course starting in feb, but its based in Heddingham, its an hour away for me, if your interested in enrolling, we could share the travel?

I grew up in Rainham and would be delighted to help if I was still there, but if I was I might not now be woodworking! Some fond memories - I used to ride bike time trials on the A13 and A127 on a Sunday morning 50 years ago, it would be suicidal now. Hope you find someone who can help but an evening class is a great way to meet people with the same interest. You are lucky to find one still running, most seem to have succumbed to funding cuts. Youtube is a great resource but watch out for yanks doing very unsafe things with machinery and don't be seduced into thinking you have to have a table saw.

Jim
