My son, recently down from Uni for the summer has donated to the workshop his redundant mini stereo system, so now I can play all my CD's which range from opera highlights to the Stones. In addition, I also have my digital wireless which is permanently tuned to Radio 2 as I can't, under any circumstances, abide commercial radio, I supose its the latent grumpiness coming out in me. Here in Salisbury we have to endure Spire FM (or Dire FM) as its more commonly called, but what do others listen to for entertainment in the workshop? Rob

Combination of Radio1, Radio4 esp PM and my ipod set to random played through the stereo. I have found that even being very careful any kit with moving parts ie CD/tapes get knackered after a while with fine dust.

I also can't bear commercial radio but I find Radio 2 the equivalent of broadcast Daily Mail.

Cheers

Tim

If I have a radio on, it's usually 5 Live to catch the news headlines. Then it's over to CDs (and rather promptly).

Most of the time, though, I don't bother with any form of entertainment because of the tool noise.

20gb MP3 player into the workshop stereo. Mostly on Random play. Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc. Sometimes 5 live for sport. Sometimes Jeremy Vine on radio 2 if I'm in the workshop at lunchtime.

Sometimes I like the peace and quiet of the workshop which is on a farm. especially if I'm thinking about or planning the next job.

Mainly R4 (especially comedy and plays - NOT archers!!), occasionally R2 and some CDs ranging from opera to Metallica

I wish something could be done about the delay you get on DAB radios.
It's very confusing if you have a DAB on in one room and an ordinary radio in another. There's enough confusion brought about by old age without thinking "Didn't he just say that?" as you walk from one room to another :? :? :?

Try watching the footy this summer on the BBC interactive service with the radio commentary selected. There's quite an amusing time lapse between the pictures and the audio  .

BBC Radio Cornwall, dunno how to tune it for anything else :D
I expect Alf tunes to the same, but thinking about it she might not.
Lord no, can't stand it. Test Match Special or iPod for me. The latter with anything from rock, pop, soul, jazz, orchestral, opera, you name it - all of 'em oldies almost with exception :D Occasionaly I'll listen to Classic FM but the repetitive ads bore me to tears.

Cheers, Alf

I have a reasonably nice system in my workshop - it is where I get to listen to most of my music these days.

I use a cheap old cd transport to spin the discs, which can be replaced for a few quid as and when it dies (fine so far, although it needs a helping hand/screwdriver to open the drawer sometimes). Then the dac, amp and speakers are reasonably good secondhand kit on the basis that they are either non-mechanical or well-sealed (speakers).

Why should I not mention the football when other sports that I don't like are discussed at length? In any case, I was talking about the poor synchronisation between the sound and the picture during digital broadcasts, not the game itself.

Whoa there Gill - no-one implied that you couldn't mention it - they just pointed out that it wasn't their 'bag'... Each to his own, and enjoy your choice: did you catch the opening ceremony this pm - what a hoot! The Bavarian Buttock Slappers had me crying with laughter, as did the girl dressed as a sort of zebra with horns - apparently she represented asia, or something...
