Hi, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this. I have one of these machines which has worked well for many years. After moving it to a new location I started it up and after a couple of minutes the motor capacitor? literally exploded. What could have caused this and any ideas on the specification of a replacement part? The motor was made by Bauknecht and the capacitor? by Bosch.
Any ideas?

Chris

The capacitor might have failed by coincidence or got knocked hard in the move. These things happen a do sound quite dramatic.

Are you still able to read the value of the capacitor on the can.

Look for a number followed by uF or mfd and a voltage such as 250vac or 400vac maybe even 450vac

Also does the capacitor have a M8 threaded stud on the end to locate it?

and does it have wires coming out, push on tags or screw on connectors?

Ideally can you post a photo (like this https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... hp?t=14776)

I can then advise on sources or supply you direct if you like.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum.:D

Sorry to hear of your problem, hopefully you will try to post a picture, if you do it will say report to moderator, once you have submitted it.
Don't worry, it will be caught by our spam trap, one of us will sort it out for you, just wait for it to happen, don't go back and delete it.

Thanks for the quick reply Bob.

The capacitor had beeb painted to match the rest of the machine during manufacture and so only the word "Bosch PR" are visible - under one of the two metal straps holdong it to the motor.

The capacitor had push on contacts as you would find in car electrics.

There is a plate on the motor however which reads :-

Bauknecht MOT 80
RBF 0.75/2 - 7R
NR 784452

1 240V 6,2A

1.0 kW cos 0.95

CB 20mF 400VDB 2800/Min IP 54

VDE 0530/72 50 Hz Is.kl.B

Electronics is not my thing but I guess the capacitor will need to be compatible with all this.

There is a threaded bolt and nut on the end on the end but not in use - two metal straps and screws secure it to the motor.

I will study the link and see if I can post a photo. The capacitor was 16x3.5 cm with plus and minus spade connectors on the end that blew out. It appeared to be filled with oil.

Hope this is of some help!
Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

I have found one that is electrically correct but so far can't find the dimensions

It is on rswww.com, part number 196-4618. it might be shorter but fatter than your old one.

I'll keep looking

Bob

Bob,

RS have a place in Glasgow, I'll give them a call tomorrow. - The dimensions don't matter as I can make up a couple of new clamps easily enough. Ill let you know the result once Ive got it fitted.

Many thanks,

Chris

sorry to revive an old trhread but did you go with the 196-4618 part from rswww.com.
mine has just given up - bought 2nd hand and has only surfaced about 2m of 75*75mm pine :O
