Graham, you won't be disappointed, they have some lovey timber and it is not a stupid price.
I am going down to my sons new house on the Isle of Sheppey next week and will do a visit to them to top up the stock.

I have not been to the timber yard before I have done all my buying from them via tinternet and not been disappointed .

Regards

Vic

Slightly off topic, but two large elms in the University Botanic Garden have just been diagnosed with Dutch elm disease and are scheduled to come down. It's possible I can get hold of some timber from them (no promises) so if anyone within striking distance of Aberdeen wants some, pm me and we'll see if anything can be arranged.

Got stocked up on elm they have loads, was a bit hard to find but I called them and they directed me.

Very nice stand Vic,

I've always liked the figuring of Elm, I find it attractive.

A small piece of trivia about elm. Left outdoors it's not very resistant to water, with wet/dry cycles (Rain/sun) it will only last a few years.

Keep it permanently wet, it will last a thousand years or more, (Elm jetty pilings from Roman times have been uncovered in the Thames)

As far as Dutch elm disease is concerned, the only places in the world where it is unaffected are Australia and the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia in western Canada.

Due to their effective quarantine enforcement, and geographical isolation.

Back to the stand. A small critique if I may. By their very nature, Christmas cakes have a flat bottom therefore the cake stand should have a flat top.

A shallow dished cake stand are for small cakes like cupcakes and the like.
