We have a makita powerplaner at work. The zero depth setting isn't zero depth. In fact its easily about 1mm.

Is there a way of fettling the thing to get it to take much finer passes? I'm not after a cabinetry finish or even a joinery finish but don't want the patches we're making up for a barn repair to look totally butchered.

There's no manual to hand and Makita’s site don't have anything. Any thoughts appreciated on Makitas or just power planers per se.

Cheers Marko

Best bet is to phone Makita Technical Support. Remarkably helpful. I can't find my manual so can't tell and never had to do it.

Are you certain that the blades are set correctly in the cutter block? It could be that at least one of them is a fraction proud, if they were recently fitted or replaced.

Makita's UK website is appalling, but their Canadian website is excellent and has manuals for most products.
I have the PDF manual for the KP0810 planer; it's not great but may be of help, so PM me with your email address if you'd like me to send it.
