MiNK, if you can stump up the extra for a copy of David Charlesworth's second DVD - Hand Planing I think you'd find the stuff on jointing an edge helpful. DC uses a cambered blade, as do I and Jeff Gorman, but you might want to opt for a square edge and clamp a simple jointer fence on the plane to make life easier. Then you just have to worry about getting it straight, which is where DC's advice is very helpful IMO.
