I thought I would post a couple of very old skarsten scrapers on eBay. Did the usual nice photos and description etc. But when I come to list it says they are a bladed item and I need to give a guarantee that they wont fall into bad hands by opting to a particular postal service! I like using Royal Mail, and normally this would just be a 2nd class item. But no, I have to ask the buyer to pay a higher charge! Isn't this getting a bit silly now? As a Skarsten scraper isn't a dangerous weapon to stab somebody! Bonkers!

I was selling a Japanese saw guide(no saw) and "computer says no"... of course its impossible to contact anyone and they wouldn't listen anyway.
It won't be long before saws get banned because once you have killed someone with the knife then you can cut them up with the saw for disposal. It is the same old story, not addressing the root cause but looking at the problem from the opposite direction, if you want to stop murders then the list of items to ban include nearly everything so just chasing your tail. In so many hobbies like woodworking and crafts they require sharp implements and without these you are unable to proceed, perhaps in time to come all food will be liquidised so no need for kitchen knives.
Years back when the law about selling "bladed items" first came out, I was in the local garden machinery place buying a filter for the mower.
There was a sign up there saying they needed proof of age to sell you an axe.
I made some quip about needing proof of age to buy the filter.
"It's silly"

I restore vintage and antique woodworking saws. Have done for decades, mostly via fleaBay. Now, I'm "not eligble to bid", because they are "age-restricted bladed instruments".
The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order 1988 makes it clear that woodworking saws are NOT. And Axminster, Toolstation. Screwfix, B&Q Amazon etc] are selling and distributing them without restrictions
And I can't "prove my age" [I'm 77, with 30 years on eBay] without specifically having AND USING a credit card. I do not use credit. Tried to talk to eBay. After 30 minutes' trying, ended up talking to a young lady in the Philippnes, who said there was nothing she could do to change things.
I have now registered a complaint of Unlawful Restriction of Trade aganist eBay with the Trading Standards Office [Reference 202186, of today's date]. I urge anyone affected by this to join and support the complaint.
Meanwhile, any ideas on an alternative trading platform - Etsy? Gumtree? - we could all move to?
