Do tools have a sixth sense or feelings that can be hurt?

I had been thinking about a new DX for my portable tools because my old Karcher doesn't have power take off and its bag changing is a pain etc etc but it works fine. Anyway I have put it off a couple of times thinking that its fine and I can't justify it.

Saturday 4 pm, working on a job for a deadline this week, the thing just blows up (and I mean blows up  ) . Smoke, stinky electrical burning smell etc etc. Just as I was about to start sanding a huge set of cabinets. Trust me, while the Metabo Duo sander is great, its little bag collector is pants. So I can't order anything until this morning - two days of sanding and routing without a vac! I am convinced it knew.8-[

Has anyone else got tools that have had the last laugh?

Cheers

Yeah... My soddin' SDS drill. I was moaning at it for being a heavy bugger for a while now and I was using a huge core drilling bit to install a vent for my new air conditioning (I hate the heat at night). I got half way through the outside wall and the core bit stopped turning. Mechanism inside was turning but the drill bit wasnt... just as if I'd turned off the rotation.

In the end I borrowed my neighbours drill. Now my sds drill is only used as a breaker as the impact side of it still works fine. I'm guessing that I stripped the threads on the gearing for the drill function. Really I should strip it down and have a look at what's busted.

Mind you it was only a Challenge Extreme one from Argos lol. Total pish!

I had one of those little 1/4" Ferm routers, only cost £20 or something, but then, just after I'd finished slagging it for being about as precice as US artillary fire, the collet exploded, sending large bits of metal everywhere! One of which hit my hand (thankfully didn't cut me) and the router bit barely missed my leg by about 2"!!! I can tell you, the air was blue after that!

After that I decided that perhaps investign in a deacent rouoter would be a good idea, so I got a Frued FTE2200, and it's brilliant!

Oh and I forgot about a palm sander I bought for a ridiculously cheap price. I had only had it for about 3 or 4 weeks and had bragged to everyone about what a wonderful little sander it was for the price and then the one time I turned it on and it literally vibrated itself to bits. It split in two and bits flew everywhere. Its a wonder it didn't burst into flames lol.

Typically, I had lost the receipt so couldn't even take it back. :x

Many Many Years ago when I was an apprentice an old feller in the workshop told me......."son never trust a machine, as they are always out to get you" And after all these years I believe him.

This particularly applies to router tables
