Hi,
can anyone help me by explaning what the insides of the record power DX 5000 fine dust extractor is like. I'm wanting to know if it's possible to cut the bottom off my 4000, fit a wire mesh cage and cover with a waste sack to end up with essentially a DX 5000 which will have more capacity.
cheers,
jon.

I,ve got the DX3000 which is the single motor version. The inside is just a plain drum with a small deflector plate to stop debris flying along the pipe and hitting the filter.

The underside of the top just has the paper filter covered with paper bag sticking down.

Thanks for your reply Jason. I have the 4000 which is exactly as you describe exept it has two motor filters and a cloth bag for increased filtering. The DX 5000 looks the same as mine with the bottom cut off the drum and a wire basket covered with a waste sack, but i've never seen inside one and dont want to cut mine until I know it's the same in case I loose the vacuum pressure.
cheers,
jon.

Yep that would work you must have a cage though to hold the bag. I used to have a DX500O Its basically just a ring with a 100mm inlet pipe a plate deflector over the inlet to prevent filter damage and a wire cage tube. with a cross brace across the diameter at the bottom.

I have a DX5000 and I want to do change it to a 4000 so I can wheel it about the floor :D
I basically need a drum to sit the 5000 top onto.
Any suggestions anyone?

How about a swap with jonny boy :)

just a thought

Andy

Thanks for your reply Russell I suspected it was the same. On starting the extractor then, does the waste sack shrink and the cage prevents it from collapsing on it's self ?

cheers
jon.

Andy, i'm assuming you want the portability along with the capacity that a 5000 offers because even though the 4000 can take 80litres it is no where near enough when attatched to the thicknesser, I can fill it in 10 mins when planing a 12 inch board.
cheers,
jon.
