DW1150 Mortising attachment - is it any good?

Hello all. My first appearance on this forum, so go easy if I make a knob of myself.
I've just acquired a DW1150 Planer/Thicknesser for absolutely no £ notes at all, and it came with the DW600 mortising attachment.
The attachment has a few bits broken and/or missing and I'm considering getting it up and running again. Looking online I reckon the bits will cost me about £40 and about half a day of my time.
My question is this - has anyone here got any experience using one of these attachments (not the planer - I know thats OK) and is it any good once working?
I don't really want to spend the cash and time only to find it's an absolute dog.
I don't have a morticing machine and it would seem that the general consensus on the forums is that pillar drill attachments are not much god.
All comments/advice welcome.

not sure as to whether that attachment is any good, but my suggestion would be to get a stand alone morticer from ebay. if you are not in a hurry, keep an eye out on there, I picked up a nice multico freestanding one for around £90. (it had been mis-described as a drill and not been in any of the woodworking sections) the multico tools seem like a good solid brand, feeling like a 75% scale model of trade machines, with a nice bit of weight to them. if I was setting up a home workshop they would be my brand of choice. if you do go for the attachment for your machine, give a review on here as i'm sure there are people with a similar idea/quandary.

I had a similar attachment on a Lurem machine some years ago. It was OK, quite usable, did fine until I replaced it with a proper morticer.
Pillar drill attachments are no good.

Nathan and Jacob - thanks for your replies.
I've just been informed by a good friend that a large workshop is being 'broken up' for sale and disposal, and I've been given first choice of any of the gear, so it may be that a dedicated morticer is coming my way soon. I'll leave the attachment for now and wait and see.
It's quite likely that there could be a heap of tools, both hand and power up for sale, as well as various fixtures, fittings, jigs and timber etc. as well as all the usual stuff that's hanging around in workshops. It would be a real shame to let it go to some auction or clearance company, so I'm hoping to get it all as a job lot and then try and sell it to good homes.
