1.5m x 800 x 190 approx. Dark oak stain and finished with Sam Maloof's mixture and his wax mix.

Still two empty shelves!

Looks good, Rod. I like the look of that stain - which one did you go for?

I hope you've got another area for additional DVD storage... I built a simple shelf a few years ago for the same purpose and filled it up very quickly!

Paul - that's just the overflow unit! :D
Sadly seen most of them but a few still in their wrappers.

OPJ - I made a bit of a c..k up with the stain. I gave up on the Brian Boggs method, as I could not get the tea over here and ordered some Van Dyke crystals. Whilst I was waiting I found some Rustins Dark Oak stain that I had bought many years ago to touch up as necessary odd bits of damage. I tested it on a spare piece of oak and it seemed fine. But when I used it for real it would not dry properly for about a week. And when I used the Sam Maloof's varnish mixture it brought some of the colour/stain off. Two weeks later and a lot of paper towel rubbing it dried off but not to a dark oak colour any more!! The wax mixture at this stage worked OK and seemed to harden everything off?
What annoys me is that it all worked on the test piece which was an off cut??
Very strange, I realise now that the stain had probably "gone off" but I have really gone off spirit stains in a big way. :)

I really like the simple design and arrangement of shelves. But sadly the finish doesn't do it for me. It must be extremely frustrating when finishing goes wrong. I dread applying oil, let alone stain

Do you ever watch the DVD's Rod?? I had a collection like that about 10yrs ago and finally decided that they were just collecting dust and using valuable space (I then lived in a 1 bed flat).
