I am finally coming to the end of my blank cd disks and have two packs of unused dvd disks that I have acquired when I saw what I thought were bargain prices!

They are both plus r which I know is OK but one pack has a speed of 4x and the other 8x.

Looking at my burn speed capabilities I note that the spec says 48x speed,
Can anyone please educate me?

are the speeds OK?

Morning DW,

Speed ratings are markedly different between CDs and DVDs. The 48x your burning equipment is noting normally the maximum speed at which a CD can be read, whereas the 4x and 8x are the maximum speeds that those DVDs can be read or written to - it's because the base data rate is so different. Way back at the beginning of time, CD data transfer rate was 150Kb/s and so the multiples you see are of that base figure; whereas the base rate for DVDs is considerably higher (something like 1.3Mb/s), so the 'multiplier' figures are lower in spite of the fact the data rate is actually higher.

Ok, I'm rambling - in answer to your question, I would be very surprised if your system didn't just choose the most appropriate write speed for you, those disks should be fine.

I need more coffee.
