I have tried them both and prefer the clear.

It is more flexible therefore easier to move around and attach to different machines etc. It also has the bonus of being able to see if it is blocked.

I have both and can't really see the difference. I'd go for the cheapest.

Hi John,

well I have used both in 4", I currently have the clear hose on my PT (because i purchased a longer length and therefore gives me a better reach to my chip extractor.) Its been in use for a couple of years in an unheated workshop and has shown no sign of failure, I don't stand on it though!
The clear hose seems a little more flexible than the grey stuff & you can see the chips passing through the clear stuff but it will get a little dusty on the inside.
I have just brought some 21/2" Dakota hose from Rutlands when they had it in a sale, I thought that was heaver duty which was what I was originally after when I got the clear stuff from Axminster, the Dakota hose has a nylon 'spring' which I guess would take a bit more 'crushing' before it distorts & flattens. I would say its is probably less flexible than the Axminster hose though.
At the end of the day I am sure you will find any of the hose will do - you might find 2.5 meters a bit short if you are running it along the floor.

Hope this helps,
Mike

There is a seller on ebay called dustspares that does PU clear ducting. My 50mm PU hose from my shop vac has been trodden on a few too many times and I keep meaning to buy a new one having bookmarked the seller a while ago. Price for 100mm is better than the axminster links. Not purchased anything from them yet of course.

Last year I bought 6m of 100mm ducting from them as they were the cheapest supplier I could find at the time. It is very good quality - very flexible but with a relatively thick wall - some hoses use very thin material which splits after a while. The service from dustspares was excellent and I'd have no hesitation using them again.

The only warning I'd give about either type of non-cloth-reinforced hose is watch out for mice. The little b******s have regularly chewed holes in mine, but they don't seem to like the cloth reinforced type.

I'd go for the clear reinforced which is a lot stronegr than the cloth type which pulls up anyway unless you have it well stretched and fixed.
Got mine off the Ebay seller.

clear it is then! :D

thanks guys

only used axi site links for the sake of quickness.

i'll soon be able to put my fine filter extractor through its paces!
