Dust extractor

Okay, I have come to the conclusion that I need a HPLV dust extractor, but for my budget, it looks as though they can all be pretty (very) loud. I know the camvacs can be quietened quite easily, but they are out of my budget, unless one comes up cheap used. Has anybody else toyed with the idea of building an enclosure for a shop vac, and using a car/bike silencer for venting?

Well from what I have read and seen just making a enclosure we venting reduces the sound a lot so as long as using a silencer doesn't restrict the air flow I don't see the problem
