Does anyone know of any reason that I should not fit a drum sander with a 1/2" arbor into my table mounted 1/2" router?

It is variable speed, so I would assume that as long as i run it at the lowest speed then there should not be a problem.

Yes or No?

What do you think?

I never got on that well with the drum sanders for drill presses - Personally, Id use a sandpaper on a dowel if I couldn't afford/didn't want to buy a drum sanding machine.

I'd be more worried about bits of abrasive dropping down into the end of the router as its dislodged from the drum.

Speed is not such an issue, there are plenty of drums sold for spindle moulders, although they are running lower rpm than a router at its slowest setting the drums are generally a larger diameter so the periferal speed will be about the same.

Buy a bobbin sander from Blister he does good deals most days
