I'm trying to establish a basic toolkit. I saw this --> http://www.toolsnstuff.co.uk/product_in ... ts_id=9957 <-- but as I understand it, dovetail saws are usually quite expensive.

I really don't want to spend a lot of money on a decent dovetail just yet -- I'm a miser and I don't want to blow my money in one go -- but would it make a half decent substitute in the interim? What does a more expensive saw have that this doesn't? How about other saws?

At that price it's disposable anyway, if its no good as a saw you can always cut it up for scrapers.
Cheers Mike

Have a look at some of the low-cost Japanese-style pull saws. Slightly more expensive, but some are good value, like this one which also doubles as a tenon saw. Dovetail only saws are available from about £8 or £9 upwards

I would say from the cheap hard point saws that I have used not to buy it and try some one like Tilgear, as you can get a Middlesex dovetail saw for £14.26+vat and postage.

I find the cheap hard point have not been sharpened propely so you dont get a good cut.

Unlees you can go there your self and I sill use one of they gent saws, like the one you where looking at :)

I hope this helps :)

Don't touch the Draper-it is a piece of poo......DAMHIK
Try one of these. Feel like a real saw, cut fairly well and can be re-sharpened. Good value!
Hope this helps
