I have fixed a template to some oak with double sided tape and when i come to splitting them i cannot get rid of the sticky left behind so far i have used white spirit and thinners .Scraping works but its so slow can anyone help please.

I find there's a knack to it. I kind of roll it off all at once. If you try to peel it, it will tear and fragment. Scraping/sandpaper finishes the job

i've got a little bottle of would you believe 'Sticky stuff remover' I think axminster's googone is more or less the same stuff.

I've not used it on dbl sided tape, but we have a large bottle of 'D-Solv-It' in the office which I guess is also the same stuff. Works very well when removing stickers from IT equipments.

I find methylated spirit works quite well (and it says so in wife's handy little book)

OLD,

Try hotmelt glue instead.

It's no dearer ITLR and it's much easier than faffing around trying to peel off the white paper, like you can with D/S tape.

Yes you might need a gun, but the glue sticks are cheap enough and you use just as much as you need.

:)

yep derek,

I did have some glue sticks that left a residue that I could roll off clean, with my finger, into a little ball of rubbery gunge. Much like the stuff the banks use for sticking a bank card to a letter! Haven't seen any about lately though.
So if necessary, I use spirits of some sort.

It now appears that the tape was quite old, i used meths, thinners and white spirit as they were to hand it just spread a thin film so in the end it had to be sanded away but i have noted your suggestions for the future thanks to all.

Ah but you didn't try EITHER of my ideas. I'm mortally offended.

This is good wine - £14 a bottle - I didn't buy it.

I wonder if it's a question of make. I bought a couple of rolls of double sided tape several years ago from Screwfix and have never had a problem. In fact , I used quite a lot on ash boards yesterday. There is no sign of a manufacturers name on the tape so it's not posh stuff like 3M. Just wondered!
