That looks REALLY "cute" Phill, and very realistic. And exactly illustrates the point I was making in another thread here about so many US efforts - as opposed to "ours" - looking too "heavy".

That's beautiful Phill you have captured the the little critter perfect. The design/style works well and like you said its small but very fiddly, some of the big stuff are much easier than small designs that require accurate cutting/shaping....... my bikes were the same loads of detail for the size and if you compare the number of pieces used for example the Manx Norton to one of the big Yank patterns they are miles apart.
We have an opportunity to create our own styles and technique using not only wood but anything to create original designs.

Thank you.

Re: other materials, I meant to reply to your similar comments on the subject in your Kingfisher thread. I absolutely agree. I think I really came to terms with this after the dyed/plain wood discussion in my Robin Intarsia posting. It occurred to me then - who cares what wood, what materials, with dyes without dyes... As long as the end result is pleasing then that surely is all that matters.

Ha ha, proper rebels us Brits!

What wood did you use for the critter? its a lovely grain and colour.

Hmm  usual reply, erm... Wooden wood  I'm thinking I really need to dedicate some time to wood identification training 8)

Cheers and keep them coming

Will do. Not sure if my next one will be the Scottish Wild Cat or the Orkney Skiff, but I really do need to get caught up with making at least one of each of my published patterns. Hmm, I've nearly finished a Landrover Defender pattern too

Well done Phill. I looked at the finished photo and tried to work out how 23 bits were made up, but couldn't until I saw the pattern. It comes off well.

It is something that I'm finding as I develop my own patterns, that the number of pieces seems to grow surprisingly quickly.

I need to work at simplifying my patterns to make some of them more suitable for beginners.

Ooh, that sounds cocky doesn't it., it's not meant to be
