I am off to Ghana for a week on business and apart from an armful of jabs, malaria tabs etc., I had to complete the Companies (mandatory) 1.5hr on-line refresher course on working/travelling abroad.
The many scenarios they show are all rather frightening - but an essential bit of kit is a door wedge.

I knew all that scrap timber I keep would come in for something one day??? :)

Wot malaria tabs are you using?

If they're Lariam, I hope you've taken some already to check for side effects. Back in the 90's in Nigeria, I had a sub-contractor nearly go completely off his rocker!

And the door wedge is a good point in some places.

Door wedge eh? What to hold it open 'cause the aircon aint workin'?
Or to secure it in case it goes all Mau Mau on you?

Tony - I am taking Malarone. Also had to have Yellow Fever *** and certificate to be allowed in the country.

Tom :D :D :D :D - yes and "refuse a room on the ground floor, near the Reception or Car Park and any rooms higher than the 7th floor (ladders cannot reach?)"
"Arrange secret signal from person picking you up at the airport and do not take any help from any stranger" The advice goes on and on ...........

Oh dear!! Although I must say all the Ghanaian people I have met seem very decent types.

This is from deepest Ghana (Accra really).

The Ghananians are very nice people but I am not staying in a hotel but a 5 bed bungalow surrounded by barbed wire topped garden walls and two security guards on the front gate. And all the widows have strong grills and alarmed. It seems the danger here is armed robbers?

Rod :)

It's the way of life in that part of the world. I wouldn't go back.
