Never tried a Domino jointer. Looks like they are popular machines. What are the joints good for? Can you do chair legs with them or best kept to lighter duties?

There are two Domino jointers, a DF500 and a DF700XL. The DF500 is best suited to small to medium sized projects and in particular with sheet goods, has a maximum depth of cut of 28mm and uses a 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm or 10mm loose tenons (dominos) in up to 50mm lengths and could easily do your chair legs, the DF700XL however is a bigger and heavier beast, with a maximum depth of cut of up to 70mm, can use 8mm, 10mm, 12mm or 14mm loose tenons as standard (and with optional aftermarket accessory can also use 4mm, 5mm, 6mm too).

I had a DF500 which I thought was great, although I have to confess to selling it when I bought a DF700XL (once I had the Seneca adapter) as although bigger and heavier I actually prefer the ergonomics of the DF700xl even for smaller projects. Where the DF500 does shine over the DF700XL is when using it with 1/2" and 3/4" sheet goods, but I don't really use a lot of that.

Thanks Ed. So does the DF500 small joiners overlap with what a biscuit jointer would do? I don't have any chairs to do just trying to gauge what these machines are useful for. I am not doing site work and have other good options for mortice and tenons in the workshop.

Best thing I can do is suggest you look at the Domino youtube videos by Peter Parfitt, The Wood Whisperer and Half Inch Shy. Many people have sold their biscuit joiners after receiving and using a Domino. I haven't yet, but have considered it.

Thanks for the links Ed.

Can't say it has convinced me that that such a small domino is a replacement for decent size M&T joint. Last chairs I made the tenon was approximately 30mm long by 12mm x 50mm but maybe I am a bit of a traditionalist at heart.
