Does anyone forage for Mushrooms?

I started foraging last year after chatting to a lady while out dog walking, although there's only a few types that I'm comfortable looking for at this stage.

I had another foraging walk this afternoon after work, it was a very wet walk, but I came home with some mushrooms that we'll be having in an omelette this evening. I've cooked the mushrooms in butter with a little black pepper and some wild garlic flower salt (the wild garlic was foraged earlier this year and dehydrated).

I admire your confidence in identifying them. I have foraged in the past for other than the ' magic' sort. we went along with a friend ,who was much more knowledgeable than we were. When you start looking at the books you understand just how many there are. It was at this point I realised that apart from a few obvious ones, the others can be tricky to identify.
 
I think our favourite from this afternoon was the Parasol mushroom, the flavour and the texture reminded us of eating steak. Not bad at all.
Shaggy Inkcaps are well worth foraging too. (y)
 
I watched a film a good few years ago called schrooms and it was not nice I would probably pick the wrong ones and not live to regret it . Good to have the knowledge of what you can eat though especially given the prices these days..
 
Picking wild mushrooms is something of a national past time over here in Czech. So, if you happen to know any Czechs, Poles, Slovaks etc, it is well worth asking them if they picked mushrooms in the past. They may be able to help with identifying, recipes, and even be company on the next trip. Mushroom soup is the usual dish I get from SWMBO, that and the odour of drying mushrooms pervading the house.

Oddly enough, the lady that I mentioned in the 1st post was Eastern European, she had a basket crammed full of various fungi.

The day after I met another chap who lives on the same lane as I do and he was also foraging. He even gave me one of his yellow mushrooms to take home and try (I didn't eat it as it happens, I was a bit unsure). He was a German guy, again friendly and happy to help.

My passion too....! Foraging is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors with all family members, no matter how old or young. Best to learn it from experienced foragers at the start though!
Yesterday was the first day up here in Scotland for a decent crop of chanterelles this season.

Yesterday was the first day up here in Scotland for a decent crop of chanterelles this season.
Self taught, been doing it for many years now :)

Down in the south, New Forest close by, tends to be a bit later before things get going down here.

Started out by learning a dozen or so of the best edibles that were hard to confuse with anything else, and a dozen or so dangerous ones at the other end of the scale, and not bothering with the other thousands inbetween !!! 😂

Yes. Been doing it for 20 years after seeing Antonio Carluccio on TV and then meeting him. Oddly enough we get quite a good variety in our present garden and orchard so I don't have to go far to get enough. Much too early down here in Kent though. Tempted to cultivate some.
