Would you believe we have a doctors appointment at 8 am this morning.

We queried the time twice.!!!!

(no problem for us in our household tho, as long as it is not before 04.00 hours. )

Why are you surprised, dw?

Given the ageing population and if my elderly mother is anything to go by then going to the doctors seems to be their whole raison d'etre (not suggesting that that applies to you, by the way). She's always going down simply because she has nothing else to fill her time expecting them to work miracles on what is, basically, a failing worn-out body. If that sounds a bit harsh...well, you haven't met my mother.

So the poor old doctors have to increase the available timeslots.

My dentist starts at 8.00am but not the doctor - lucky to get an appointment at 9.00am.

Its just that normally over the past 41 years at this surgery I have never heard of anything before 9.30 and that was usually running 30 minutes late.

My insomnia is a very debilitating thing.

The benign view would be that as more people work, so 9-5 week day appointments become less desirable so doctors are accomodating the needs of their patient demographic. GP's are also taking clinical duties which once would have been the preserve of hopsital based services such as diabetic clinics, AF clinics, warfarin management and so on - as such they have extended their hours to accomodate these.

The cynical view would be that as GPs now get paid per patient and per procedure its in their financial interest to get as many patients through the surgery as possible to maximise their incomes.

Take your pick depending on your world view ;)

Steve

Steve your cynical view is the correct one as my wife is a district nurse and yes the doctors do get paid for each patient the treat ie blood pressures, blood tests weight loss programs, quit smoking, flu jabs ect ect

I must be at the bottom of their Christmas card list, November last year was the last visit, they did try to get me to go for a set of xrays, but no I dodged that one.

Just been down to the doc's this morning for the six monthly BP test...all good. Not quite so good was cycling through a torrential downpour to get to the surgery, and thence into town to the station - Rob
