I have a Disston D8 which I bought new for 62/6pence probably in the late 60's. I have read that the Disston factories closed down in the 50's so these saws must have been in storage for quite some time?
Mine is a Canadian one so did the factory there keep working?

Disston D8s were still available in the 1970s when I bought my first one, but they weren't old stock. What they were was designed for use by Saskwatch (i.e. they had really big handles) and they were very poor compared to Spear & Jacksons or Tyzackss of the day. Having now acquired some pre-WWII Disstons I see exactly how poor the later, post 1955 Disstons really are.
