Been watching Holmes on homes.
Are the wiring standards across the pond as bad as that programme seems to suggest?
All those hidden junction boxes horrify me!

Roy.

If that's the 1st time you've watched it your in for a BIG eye opener.

I'm a virginman, please where do I find this program?

Hidden junction boxes are quite common over here too Roy! More noticeably in older houses which have been wired radially but also anywhere where Mr DIY has come in and stuck in a box to run a spur from a loop. On Holmes on Holmes they do tend to do it on new wiring jobs though, which is a bit of a no-no over here.

Steve.

Define accessible though  Buried in a wall probably not, put under a floorboard is defined as accessible but you put laminate or carpet over that and they become difficult to access and find. I prefer to avoid them wherever possible, although do tend to use them for loft lighting as I can then screw them to rafters.

Code here is to run in pipe,so access is available, also it stops homeowner running nails into wire while hanging pictures. :D The old timers ran it on knobs like power cables are pole to pole.Only in attics and basements.

Over here GO 'Cowboy' in reference to builders means bad ones.
Certainly junction boxes have their uses in wiring, but in one of the HonH programmes I watched there was no indication as to their locality nor means of assessing them.
Compared with our looped in system it seems at best a very untidy means of doing the job. I agree that we did use junction boxes more extensively in the past, but our present method is much easier to access and I certainly wouldn't wish to work as they seem to in HonH.
How to acess the programme on Virgin John I haven't a clue, perhaps someone else can help you.

Roy.

Virgin broadcast Disco realtime on channel 271

Schedule here

I notice that Discovery will be launching a new channel called "Discovery Shed" hopefully there will be the type of subjects to interest us like Honetime used to be before the fishing

"HONETIME"?

I would watch a good programme on sharpening techniques!

From what I see advertised for SHED, it looks like the same old recycled programmes and INCLUDES fishing.

Fishing from a shed??

Hi all

Not all the cowboys live that side of the pond there properly as many living here this side as well , it's no different no matter which country you live in .hc
