hi guys

what manufactures make good disc sanding machine say about 12" dia and what sort of price do they go for nowadays, what other makes are there besides pro form and ax-minster ?

Hello there Martin,

I have just treated myself to one of these beauties, by Hegner;

http://www.hegner.co.uk/system/index.html

I am very pleased with my decision to buy this machine. Yes it was expensive, but it is top quality, quiet, good dust extraction and very accurate. The aluminium fence is solid and reliable. The table large and very functional. Hegner are a good make more renown for their lathes.

The sanding disc's are removable and can be changed easily.

The other machine I looked at was the Jet, but it seemed so agricultural by comparasion. A powerful strong machine it weighs 54kg!

I took a long time to decide though, just generally about getting one of these machines, are they really necessary? I still turn to my shooting board for end grain work. However, the Hegner has been very handy for a number of tasks, especially for making mitres. Cheating I know but they turn out perfect! :)

A useful machine to have in the workshop.

Regards, Tony.

Maybe not the most helpful response, but my Myford lathe has a sanding disk and table attachement. Worth considering perhaps if you have a lathe?

Hi OllyK,

I don't have a lathe yet but, just for future reference, have you got any photo's or images of the design of this? I can understand how you mount the disc but it's the table I'm not sure about; I've seen some which are adjustable but nothing on how they're actually made.
