Hi Dewy,
Yes you can use the pin with the mag base but this severely restricts your options. Much better lug mounted when it's necessary to use the gauge in confined or awkward spaces, such as inside a machine etc. As Philly doesn't have the mag base the lug will make it easier to mount on a fixture.
