Ah well that is the tool that should be on the market

It is, its called a Reflectorless Total Station, or EDM. Its a piece of surveying equipment that will cost about £5000 - not really appropriate for setting the blade angle on a tablesaw though.

Much as I like the idea of a matchbox sized device that fires a beam around the room and determines the relative angle of things, I suspect its a year or two away...best to start saving now.
