I purchased a new set of chisels this week and have now come to the need to sharpen. The weather down here in Devon today at 10.30 am is around 5 centigrade in my workshop so I brought my sharpening gear into the kitchen
Firstly I found that the rubber routering mat proved useful on kitchen tops it stopped the slipping, so will use the mat again in workshop when needed
Secondly I was concerned with such a lot of sharpening to do my Eclipse honing guide would start to wear of the diamonds  or wear off the running wheel of the guide. Therefore I laid a bit of poly bag on the stones to take up the wear where the wheel of the guide rubbed. It worked.
Thirdly I found a good place to store my diamond cards, in the chisel box, there is just enough room.
Photographs attached if interested.
Haven't got round to flattening the backs yet
