Seeking advice on which Dewalt impact driver to get

The following look similar but not having ever had one I am unsure which if any is better than the other

Both are body only as I have a dewalt drill with two batteries and its just for DIY use

There is one on Screwfix (DCF887)

<https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-d...re/551fu#product_additional_details_container>

States 3 speed 205Nm

and one on Toolstation (DCF809)

<https://www.toolstation.com/dewalt-18v-xr-brushless-cordless-impact-driver/p51605>

States torque 190N-m, no mention of 3 speed

Any ideas on which to get out of these two?

I am kicking myself for not buying the kit of both at the same time

Always look around the market place and check out prices before looking at Screwfix or Toolstation, they tend to be more expensive unless you catch one of there deals which can be ok.

Cant comment about the 809 but I've got the 887 and its superb - cannot fault it. If you move quick you can get it as a bare tool for just under £55 on the bay (buyaparcel).

I always do but these two were the cheaper options, others out there for *similar* drivers were more expensive, some much more

I find getting something like this from places close enough to return it to makes a difference when you have a problem

But am always open to save money ;-)

And of course as soon as I said that I found the same model number at Toolstation, ten quid cheaper at CEF (who I have never dealt with) is it worth the tenner trying to deal with someone miles away?

Are these genuine though, theres one on there for £50 free postage but is it a knock off?

the toolstation one is not 3 speed
I have the 3 speed and as a DIYer , i use the different speeds all the time and would not be without it
the lower setting is great for screwing into soft wood without issues of the head going to far into the material
i thne can up to speed 2 and control that depth
then for various projects involving nuts and bolts - speed 3 used
also for undoing nuts on lawnmower and other things that are particularly tight

so my view is get the 3 speed one

Thank you just the sort of information I was after

I have the DCF887 with 3 speeds and it's great. It's not perfect, eg: 1 of the 3 LEDs stopped working when it was still relatively new, and the trigger sensitivity takes a bit of getting used to, but overall it's been a real trooper. Tons of poke when required, and pretty compact compared to my previous Ryobi (which is now relegated to workshop duties).

I got it in a screwfix bundle with the drill driver and 3 x 3ah batteries, which last for ages on a charge.

If you've already a decent drill/driver you may surprise yourself how little you use an impact driver. I have a Milwaukee Fuel 18v and rarely use it, for more delicate work a drill driver is better. It depends very much how much heavy duty work you have to do.

Its just for DIY work and you could well be right, it may get little use but its handy to have two drills on the go, one to drill and another to drive screws, I have several other drills which appear to be all passing away at the same time, I bought a dewalt combi drill last year and its been a revelation, up to any task I have asked of it without a murmur, and there are occasions when an impact driver would have been useful, and I have a few jobs on my daughters newly acquired home that will require an impact driver so thought I would see what all the talk was about and get one, I may regret it but then I will never know without getting one

Just to add, Screwfix are obviouly listening in as they have sent me a £10 off voucher which may sway my decision ;-)

yep, i get adds all the time based on recent searches
I dont think you will regret it - i use mine all the time, and its great to have 2 items , one for drilling and one for screwing - BUT as i say i'm only a diyer

we dont have siri ON or alexa ON all disabled and still get adds based on conversations , so something is on

I think you need to work out your use, if you are doing rough work, big screws, an impact driver is invaluable. However if you are doing woodwork where you want to sink screws to a neat flush finish, I'd think about just getting a second drill.

I've got the 205nm, 3 speed dewalt and it rarely gets put into the top or bottom speed (it's torque really), I rarely need the extra power, and the lowest setting is really too weak IMO, between the two you mentioned I would probably get the 3 speed machine just for the odd occasion that you need the extra oomph, but I wouldn't pay a lot more for it than the basic machine

Okay I bit the bullet and ordered one from power tool world, the £60 was still ten quid cheaper than the screwfix one even with a ten quid off voucher, so we will see if I made the right or wrong decision when it comes

Many thanks for all the replies, all useful information

The seller is an authorised Dewalt seller so they'd be foolish to try and pass off counterfeit tools.
I went looking for one under the £55 you mentioned but didn't find one under that name. the only one just under £55 was definitely not a Dewalt agent who even had the following in the items description

NOTE: Not Original Comes Without any Warranty & It is designed to deliver reliable performance and quality at a competitive price point.

I went back and eventually found another Dewalt model for that seller you mentioned, checked their other items and found an 887 for £75 less 20% so ends up as £60, I have to say the name buyaparcelstore does not fill me with confidence anyway

I've bought several of my Dewalt 18v tools and batteries from that particular seller and I've been a satisfied customer each time, the only thing I griped about is their use of Evri but fortunately I received the parcels without incident.
