The saw blade will mark the plastic fence insert at 90 deg. and would cut through it at 45 deg. bevel.

Does anybody know how I can prevent this. It seems the blade travels to far back but there is no way of adjusting it in the manual.

Can anybody help or should I just take it back?

Hi Craig,

Welcome to the forum. :D

I don't have a DW707, but I am guessing that it has a replaceable fence support that fits into the gap need to allow the blade to cut to the corner of the work. If you are using the saw on site to cut studs for walls then I would not fit this to the saw. But if you are cutting door parts to size then using the plastic support gives a 'zero clearance' insert effect to the saw. This reduces tear out on the work. The insert will only provide full support at one angle setup, so it should be remove when not required. I think that you should be able to buy spare supports so you can have one for each of the common angles you cut.

On my cheapo B&Q saw I get a similar effect by fitting a strip of mdf as a sacrificial fence, which I renew when I need a very clean cut.

There will probably be a DW owner along to say I got it wrong!

Hi Craig

Welcome to the forum

If it's the plastic bit that goes between the two halves of the fence as Dave says then he pretty much has it covered. I have a DW712 which didn't come with this bit but I have a couple of inserts that I bought separately. They are only useful for one cut angle as you have discovered. I use mine for fine cross cuts using a 60 series 80T blade and I have one with a 90 deg cut in it and the other with a 45 deg cut as these are the two angles I cut 99% of the time.

As Dave says you don't need it for studs and rough work.

I reckon most people use a sacrificial bit of 6mm MDF but the insert saves the bother of how do you hold the MDF in place is about all.

HTH
Cheers

The DW701 has the same problem - I just cut into the plastic - gives you a fright the first time - you think that you have done something wrong.
