hello all, i bought a large board of elm several years ago, its very dry and very nicely figured in places. i was asked to turn a tazza by my mother in law  and although i disagree with the dimensions she insisted on- heres a problem i had and overcome whilist making the bowl section.

heres the block mounted on a faceplate its 9" by 9" by 3 1/2"

Certainly a heavy weight Tazza. Does your mother in law make very large lardy cakes perhaps

Lovely piece of wood however. Is the bottom different or is it the light?

Pete

its all elm, but the bottom bit has one dark side one light ( a bit like the mother in law- except without the light  )

i aways know whe its her at the front door as the mice throw them selves on the traps

heres the rest of todays effort

Nice work, nice pictures - love the goblet :D (and spalted beech generally..)

Andrew (divorced,mother-in-law no longer a problem.. )

It's a bit like my  mother-in-law, there is always a dark cloud above her head following her where ever she goes. When she comes to my door it's me that jumps into the mouse trap

I offered to make her a box..........but she managed to get out before i could nail the lid shut!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for another great step by step C. I've turned a lot of elm and this is a problem I've had too.

As for Mother in Laws - I have to be honest, mines my best salesperson. She has sold at least 4 bowls to friends and family, mostly sight unseen.

Not been 'on' for a while ... just catching up .... that Tazza is an absolute "stonker", I really like that, -- Its the stem section I think that does it, -- you must have been quite chuffed with that little lot for a 'days effort'
Like your stuff a lot, Corny... even gave the missus a shout to come have a 'look-see' 8)

" Why can you do stuff that nice ? " she said ! ha ha ha :p :p :p

Really nice work Sir... really nice 8) 8) 8) 8)
