Hi,

I want to make a pen for a friend, who happens to be a Canon, and would like to use a 'crucifix' / 'cross' pen clip. I'm sure I've seen these somewhere but not sure where. Also not sure what pen kits these were available for from memory.

I've tried Google and eBay without much success, anyone enlighten me?

As I only want one I wondered if anyone here had a spare they would sell me, or maybe trade for pen blanks?

Thanks,

Neil.

This reply is not meant to be funny in any way, but if you are unable to find a cross shaped pen or kit. You could always design your own, if not a cross you could shape it like a 'Cannon' barrel

Without the carriage of course  .
(minor modifications to the lumpy bits)

EDIT. some replies were quicker than me and found you one

Hi Neil.

That's crazy, £4.50 for a envelope and a 1st class stamp.

I'm sure there must be some forum members local to TR, can't they help?

Turner's retreat have put up all their prices by 20% 'because of the dollar / pound situation'. This in spite of the fact that they didn't put it down when the difference was far far more poositive. The word bandwagon comes to mind  Our club has stopped dealing with them and gone over to Stiles & Bates instead .

Just to be 'balanced' in defence of TR ... ( whom I do like dealing with, I have to say... )

Ordered a few things thursday last.. one of which was a faceplate to fit the Patriot chuck, and a few bits like a stock-up of abranet, ebonising laquer etc etc ...

The Faceplate came in direct from Sorby.. arrived friday morning,
the rest arrived saturday morning from TR...

No 'double dunt' for carriage or anything.. its just came.

Also - I goofed up and actually ordered 2 faceplate rings.. thursday evening, got a phonecall from TR 'recognising' that it was perhaps an error by me, and they corrected it there and then..
They 'could' just as easy have sent 2 and charged me for them.... but they didn't, they gave what I thought was 'good service' and phoned.

I guess one can only go with ones own experiences .. but I have to say that I like dealing with them.
Pete's right about the price increases.. there was a letter in with the goods explaining their standpoint and why they have taken the action that they have.

Whilst I see the point of the "£4.50 for one pen clip criticism" ... if you'd ordered 400 of them, it'd still be £4.50. .... a level has to be set, and maintained, I suppose.

From the experiences I've had with them.. can't fault 'em ! 8) 8) 8)

Tipping the scales back the other way a bit. TR annoyed me recently by not including instructions with their pen kits and substituting a pen blank with an unknown alternative.

Edit: Also no instructions with my Fingernail Profile Jig. Which I guess could be RS's fault. But aren't they in close cahoots?

Good luck Neil, and as you say 'common sense' may mean its a first class stamp & the price of an envelope, etc.

As Tam says .. nobody close at hand passing their door who could nip in and collect it for you ? ...

Definately a case of different experiences for different occasions for different people... hopefully they'll play ball and send you the component you need :D

tom, turners retreat is sorby's its their shop. neil, i was there sat morn, and if i knew i would only have been glad to have got you one.

Turners retreat is owned by Sorby (or the other way around so anything form Sorby is at a fixed price. e.g. the patriot basic chuck is £25 cheaper in another store. I just have a problem with a company that can pass on the rises in price but not the decreases when it is due to outside influences.

Rant over sorry.

Pete

Rant on Pete, nice to know these happenings if your in the market for something. At least it gives us a heads up so we can look around other firms.

Must admit I never buy much these days without trawling the net for 20 mins. or so before placing my order. Can save you a bit of the readies.

Don't want to spend too much either cause when the Government gets its hands on it's share it just gives it away so these guys can have their pensions.

I would like to introduce myself as a newcomer to the forum. I am David Green, manager of Turners Retreat. The reason for joining is that I wanted to explain some of the comments already posted.
First of all, as far as Neil’s question about postage is concerned common sense should prevail. I have checked correspondence with Neil which was a request to confirm which pen the clip fitted. I cannot trace a specific request about postage for just one clip. Had that been the case the answer would not have been £4.50.
The question of pricing does need some clarification. In the nine years that we have been marketing the basic 7mm pen there has been no price at all despite the fact that we have incurred cost increases from our suppliers. The reason for that is that sterling has moved in our favour during that time which enabled us to absorb such increases. Sadly the reverse has now happened and sterling is now weaker than it was nine years ago which means that we can no longer absorb such adverse currency movements. Since printing our catalogue our costs have increased by 31% purely because of currency. Those movements affect all of us and are far beyond our control.
We clearly state in the revised pricing schedule that ‘should the pound appreciate substantially in value in the coming months then we will amend our pricing accordingly.’ That is no idle promise.
We do appreciate the efforts of our customers and please rest assured that we are working assiduously to minimise the impact of the fall of sterling.

Welcome to the site David, i cannot comment on the postage debate because i have never had anything sent from you, i much prefer to visit your lovely new shop as i did only a couple of weeks ago.

I take it Neil was just going by your website which states £4.50 for postage of one pen clip.

hiya david, its about time you came on board. it's great to have you here. the other reason is, it's also good to have a suppliers point of veiw too.
