Looking for a new (to me) car. The 2 options seem to be cream leather or black leather seats. The lighter ones look good, but I have a toddler to transport, and the combination concerns me. Does anybody have any experience of light coloured interiors and how difficult they are to keep clean. Can you get any form of spray on stuff to help- my wife has some suede shoes that she sprays and they look as new- is there a car equivalent?

You might want to try leather furniture suppliers / shops for information on wear, scuffing and means of protection as they should have more experience than car salesmen?
Leather settees do seem to last well but like you, I'm not convinced about cream and how well that would look when aged.
Bear in mind that not only do you have a toddler to transport (like me), you'll probably inadvertently be lobbing the occasional lump of timber in as well.

The idea is to only ever put clean PSE inside it (which i rarely buy anyway!). Anything sawn can go in the trailer/roof rack! That idea should last for the first couple of weeks anyway.

That was my idea with a brand new car as well - not quite sure how long it lasted but I now need to clean out the remains of some oak, redwood and sycamore bought at Ickworth last weekend.

I have a friend who used to have a car which had cream leather seats, this was in Leeds too but it was an E reg car so I doubt it's the one you are considering. The seats were well worn and the creases showed up as black and made it look shabby (you might like shabby). My parents cream sofa is the same. My Mother wouldn't have a dirty sofa so I suspect she's not able to make it cleaner.

You can get leather protector but I would choose black every time, especially with kids.

Black is very forgiving and I think it looks good in cars.

My Mondeo has a cream leather interior and it scrubs up well especially considering what a dirty barsteward I can be! Last muck I had all over the seats was filthy old diesel engine oil after a turbo change on another car, It just wiped off with a baby wipe.
We have cream leather couches at home too. Two big dogs jumping on it (English Setters) hasn't harmed it in the slightest and it's eight years old now.
The only thing I have against black is it will burn the skin from your body in the summer as the seats will get red hot in the sun. Cream is quite a bit cooler.

you are not the first person to mention the scorching of legs in the summer. It was something that I hadnt thought about.

It "should" only be wipeable things- odd bit of mud etc. The car is going to be kept as a smart car- no hedge trimmings, bales of straw etc. And the carpets etc are black, regardless of the seat colour.

Having two children under 3 1/2, I can attest that hedges and bales of straw pale into insignificance next to the power of a child to cover every surface with crumbs, goo and mud. Your car (like ours) will start off smart and clean, and within a few long journeys' worth will be the landing ground for child detritus :)

Having said that, I would go for cream because you are likely to change the car before the leather gets that worn look, and black shows up everything mucky. (just think about a black finish on wood vs light colour). But.... I also think black looks a little more classy than white...

So, the choice is yours :)

I've had it in a BMW but I changed the car after 3 years and 18000 miles. I also took really good care of it and no Kids, eating in the car or dirty work clothes. It looked fantastic in a black car but I've seen older ones and the creases looked terrible.

Having said that, my last 2 cars have had black leather and I much prefer it. Personal choice really.

One other thing to bear in mind is that the majority of buyers don't go for it and the dealers find it harder to sell which reflects in trade in value when you come to change, (or so I'm reliably informed).

Black every time. Have pale grey leather in this car and it looks worse after 3 months than the last car did after 3 years

Hi
New black (cheap) jeans sat on a new cream leather chair left a permanent dye stain that defied all attempts at removing.
Even the "experts" gave up!

I've had two cars with cream leather, a Calibra and a 328 coupe. Both were a nightmare to keep clean from just normal use (no children involved). The upside was that cream leather doesn't get anywhere near as hot as black leather on a summer's day.
