I dismantled a wormy, past-it Edwardian washstand made of this stuff.
It turned out to be stained, Parana Pine. Before I broke it up, it looked exactly like the picture of the wardrobe section posted above.
I use a lot of Parana pine myself, but I have to admit, until I cleaned the finish off it, I was a bit mystified too.
If that was cherry I think it would be much darker, for the age it is.
So if it's soft, then I go for Parana Pine. You can't mistake the stink of it when you saw it, which is its worst feature!
